Fall Primary Recruitment

Primary recruitment is a mutual selection process held each fall that allows for potential members and chapters to find the best organizational fit for future members. Through this four-day process, potential members will visit with the nine chapters participating in recruitment, gradually narrowing down chapters until a match is made with one chapter at the conclusion of the process.

Prior to completing the registration form, please be sure you’ve gathered necessary information. This includes your CSU ID number, high school GPA, college GPA (if applicable, CSU and/or transfer GPA), high school and college extracurricular involvement (if applicable), information for legacy connections (if applicable), and credit card information for the $35 recruitment registration fee. Registration for recruitment opens on June 1, 2022 and closes Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 6pm. Please wait to register, however, until you have the most current academic information to report on your registration form.

Please note that when you login to the registration page, you will create a user name (email address) and password that you will use throughout recruitment. Please note the email and password you use as you will be able to log back in to your registration to make additions or changes. This is also how you will participate in making your own selections at the conclusion of each round of recruitment.

The primary recruitment process will occur September 23-24 and 26-27, 2023.

• Saturday, September 23, approximately 9:30am-8pm: Values and Membership Expectations Day
• Sunday, September 24, approximately 9:40am-7:30pm: House Tours and Philanthropy Day
• Tuesday, September 26, approximately 4:30-9pm: Preference Events
• Wednesday, September 27, approximately 5:30pm: Bid Day Celebration

While the Panhellenic Association does not have a minimum GPA requirement to register for or participate in recruitment, many chapters do have minimum GPA requirements in place for any potential member extended a bid to membership. This includes minimum GPAs from high school or college (depending on what is the most recent for the potential member). Concerned potential members can contact the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life if they have questions and we encourage all potential members to ask about academic requirements and expectations during the formal recruitment process when visiting with chapters.

Legacies are potential members with family ties to active or alumnae members of a Panhellenic sorority. Legacy definitions (which family members are included) vary by organization. In addition, legacy policies vary by organization and typically do not guarantee membership in an organization. In fact, many organizations represented at CSU have discontinued any preferential treatment extended to legacies to ensure an equitable and inclusive recruitment process for all potential members. In the recruitment registration form there is space for legacies to provide this information so chapters will know the legacy is participating in the recruitment process.

Potential members are encouraged to wear clothing in which they feel comfortable and that allows each individual to be themselves. Some general recommendations for each round of recruitment are provided below, and potential members can ask their individual recruitment coach for additional insight or guidance closer to the primary recruitment process.

• Round 1: Wear something casual that allows you to freely move to get from event to event. That might include shorts, pants, dresses, etc. Since there is walking anticipated, comfortable footwear is encouraged.
• Round 2: Wear something slightly less casual – perhaps a comfortable sundress, skirt, or pants. There is also a lot of walking during this day, so comfortable footwear is encouraged.
• Round 3: Round 3 is more formal and potential members are encouraged to wear something that demonstrates this level of formality to them. Chapter members typically wear “cocktail attire” or something slightly more formal (whatever that might mean for the individual) during this round.
• Bid Day: Wear something casual. Typically chapters will provide bid day shirts on this day, so wearing jeans or shorts with a top you can layer under a bid day shirt may be helpful.

Recommendation or reference letters may be written for an undergraduate potential member, although they are not in any way required to participate in recruitment or join a CSU Panhellenic sorority. These letters may introduce a potential member to the chapter and provide additional context about the individual’s involvement history and unique characteristics. A large majority of women participating in the formal recruitment process do so without any letters of reference submitted.

If potential members know individuals who desire to submit a letter of recommendation, they may be accepted by CSU sororities. Alumnae members should follow the process outlined by their inter/national organization.
